A Low Carb Food to Help You Manage Your Weight and Blood Sugar

Today we’re showcasing Macro 85% Lower Carb Linseed & Sunflower Bread Rolls available from Woolworths.

These low-carb bread rolls are packed with nutritious seeds and are a great source of protein and fibre. What really amazes me is that this bread roll doesn’t have a tough cardboard-like texture like some other low-carb breads do. Instead, it has a pleasant soft, chewy texture. One of my favourite ways to use these is to make a super juicy, low-carb beef burger for a fun night at home. (Keep on reading for the recipe!) Want more tips to manage your weigh and keep your blood sugar level at bay, you may find this sugar review video interesting.

Pros:

Nutrition 10/10

I really can’t fault the nutrition of this product. It has the highest amount of protein, fibre and healthier fats from seeds, compared with most of the other bread rolls on the market*. The sodium level is much lower than normal bread rolls. Plus, it’s very low in carbs and can be used as part of a low-carb lifestyle.

Ingredients:

Water, Wheat Gluten, Linseed (13%), Sunflower Seeds (13%), Bamboo Fibre, Canola Oil, Soya Flour, Vinegar, Yeast, lodised Salt

A very clear and simple ingredient list. Nothing dodgy. As you can see, this bread roll contains a lot of seeds – almost a quarter of this bread is made up of linseed and sunflower seeds.

Taste 8/10

Yes, this product is not as soft as a traditional bread roll. A few of my clients said it contains too many seeds for their liking. However personally, my family and I really quite like it, it reminds me of the texture of nice seeded bread – chewy, but not hard.

Compared with regular bread rolls, this product is great for people with:

  • Weight concerns

  • Insulin resistance/PCOS

  • Type 2 diabetes

  • High blood pressure

  • Fatty liver

  • High triglycerides

Cons:

People need to be aware is that this product has more gluten than traditional bread rolls. If you are gluten sensitive or have coeliac disease, this is not a great product for you.

Now, let me show you a great way to enjoy this product.

RECIPE: Super Juicy Low-Carb Beef Burger

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 4 Macro 85% Lower Carb Linseed & Sunflower Bread Rolls (available from Woolworths)

  • 600g lean beef mince

  • 1 egg

  • 4 slices Jarlsberg Lite cheese

  • 1 onion, shredded

  • 2 gherkins in dill sauce, thinly sliced

  • 1 tomato, thinly sliced

  • Canned beetroot, 4 slices

  • Lettuce, a few leaves

  • 4 tsp olive oil

  • 1/3 tsp salt

  • Pepper to taste

  • Reduced sugar tomato sauce

Method:

  1. Beat one egg in a large mixing bowl. Add salt and pepper, shredded onion and beef mince. Mix with your hands until evenly combined.

  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion with your hands into a pattie, about 10cm in diameter and 1.5cm thick.

  3. Heat half the olive oil in a large, non-stick frying pan over low-medium heat and cook half the patties for about 4 minutes on each side or until browned and cooked through. Put the cooked patties aside. Repeat with the remaining oil and patties.

  4. Pre-heat the oven to 200’C fan-forced. Top each pattie with one slice of cheese. Place on a baking tray and bake in the oven for 1 minute or until the cheese is just melted.

  5. Slice each bread roll in half. Dress with beef-cheese pattie, lettuce, beetroot, sliced tomato, sliced gherkins, and a dollop of reduced sugar tomato sauce.

  6. Enjoy!
